FAQs

When will the library re-open? As soon as it’s safely possible! We don’t have a date yet, but when we do we’ll announce it on our website, social media, and our weekly e-newsletter.

What about the materials I already have checked out? You may return them through the book drop on the west side of the building. No overdue fines will accrue until August 1, 2020.

Before the library closed for COVID-19, I ordered library materials through inter-library loan. When will I get them? The RAILS inter-library loan system is shut down for the time being. All holds will be filled when RAILS resumes normal operations.

Are Advantage copies of bestsellers still being offered to residents? Advantage copy hold requests, which give priority to Glencoe residents on popular e-book and e-audiobook titles, will continue to be monitored. Advantage copies are available only for titles checked out through Digital Library of Illinois

I don’t have a library card. How can I get one? You’ll need a current library card to enjoy the library’s online offerings. Click here to self-register for a temporary library card number and password. The temporary card will allow you to download e-books and e-audiobooks through Overdrive and to place holds in the catalog. Your permanent card, which allows access to all of our online resources, will have to wait until we reopen. If you already have a GPL library card that is expired or is due to expire soon, don’t fret—we’ll automatically extend the validity of your card through August 1, 2020.

What’s the best way to learn about the latest library news and programs? To receive weekly updates on upcoming virtual programs and library service changes, sign up for our e-newsletter on the GPL website.
